The Sumptuous Four Seasons Hotel in Guangzhou

Introduction

The Four Seasons Hotel in Guangzhou is a fairly new addition which only opened about three years ago. The hotel occupies floors 69 through 94 of a modern building close to the river bank, opposite Guangzhou’s landmark tower. The lobby is on the 70th floor.

Obviously the hotel offers some very spectacular views of the city and the river, with floor to ceiling windows in all rooms. But apart from that, the architecture of the building is very modern and rather striking.

The Room

The rooms are very nicely appointed and rather huge, most rooms have a divan by the window for you to sit and gaze over the city. Having said that, my room is on the 91st level and most of the time visibility was zero due to the clouds. Which, incidentally, makes for rather a cool effect. You see water running down the windowpanes, even though it is not raining!

The bathroom has heated floors, a separate bath and shower and comes with toiletries from L’Occitane. Shaving kits and tooth brushes are also provided, although this seems to be quite standard in most Asian hotels these days.

The Facilities

The Four Seasons Guangzhou also boasts and excellent gym and pool. The pool is 25 metres long and 5 metres wide. The gym is open 24 hours a day while the pool is only open from 06h00 to 22h00. Note that wearing a swimming cap is mandatory in the pool!

The gym is cool in that the treadmills have all been set up right by the windows, so you kind of feel that you are about to take a flying leap into infinity! On the down side, the gym does not provide any protein shakes. So if you are planning on lifting weight, you better bring your own.

There are quite a few dining options at the hotel. During my stay I tried the Italian Mondo restaurant for breakfast and the Atrium Lobby for afternoon tea. The breakfast selection at Mondo is quite amazing, to the point that you are at a loss for what to choose or where to start. You can have a typical Guangzhou style noodle soup made to order, which I can highly recommend, especially if you like spicy food.

Afternoon Tea

The afternoon tea at the Atrium Lobby is also very good and very traditional.
