My very first trip with Thai Airways was from Zürich via Bangkok’s old airport to Sydney and then on to Auckland to visit my dear old friend A. The leg from Züich to Bangkok was operated by the beautiful MD-11, which wore the Thai Airways livery very well. The onward connection to Sydney and then Auckland was on the mighty Boeing B 747-400.

Thai Airways was severely affected by the outbreak of the COVID19 pandemic. As Thailand shut down for tourists, the airline had no other choice but to downsize its operation, which meant that it also decommissioned its fleet of Airbus A 380s.
