SAS, Plus Smart – Airbus A 320 NEO: Oslo to Haugesund

Introduction

I arrived in Oslo late yesterday evening and spent the night at the Radisson Blue Hotel.

Today I continue my journey to Haugesund.

Check-In

The airport is already busy when I arrive. I‘ve already checked in online, but I still need to tag and drop off my suitcase.

The terminal is generously laid out and spacious.

So my first stop is at the check-in machines, followed by the baggage drop off.

The security check is brisk and efficient, which allows me to take some photos while I wait for my colleague to collect her stuff.

SAS Domestic Business Class Lounge

The lounge is still fairly quiet when I arrive just after six. However, it quickly fills up.

I pick a nice looking spot that looks like an IKEA showroom.

There are washrooms and showers in the lounge.

The lounge has several small booths that can be used to work quietly or make a phone call.

There are plenty of food and drink options in the lounge.

This includes the infamous Norwegian brown cheese, which is not bad, but certainly an acquired taste.

Luckily, there are plenty of other choices.

Boarding

There are three boarding piers at Oslo airport. The A pier is for domestic flights only. The B pier is for Schengen/Non-Schengen flights, whereas the C pier is for mixed Schengen/domestic flights – with the upper C concourse used for the domestic flights.

It’s a lovely day for flying.

The terminal seems very quiet.

The flight today is operated by an A 320 NEO.

I mean, the size of those engines.

The Cabin & Seat

The cabin is tidy and still looks quite new. Some of Scandinavian‘s B 737s are getting a bit long in the tooth, and it shows.

The bulkhead with the SAS logo.

And the leg space is good. The middle seat on the row of three is kept empty.

There is a USB outlet in every seat.

So, I guess this means I’ll have to find somewhere else to put my Barbara Cartland…

We push back on time. In Norway, the aircraft are only pushed back from the gate onto the taxiway, but the are not turned.

Had I mentioned what a lovely day it is for flying?

The Meal – Breakfast

In the SAS Plus cabin, a complimentary boxed breakfast is served, which is quite good for a flight of only forty minutes.

It’s also a lot more substantial than what I was expecting.

There are three items in the box.

The meal consists of a cheese and salami sandwich.

Joghurt and granola.

And a small mango and elderflower juice.

To drink, I have a large bottle of still water and a coffee with milk.

Arrival in Haugesund

The approach into Haugesund is beautiful, and brings us in over the rugged coastline.

There is only a little bot of snow left on the mountain tops.

The coastline is rugged and so beautiful.

We make one last, sharp left turn to line up with the runway.

Closer…

… and then we land.

And as an added bonus, there are no airbridges at Haugesund!

Two minutes behind us the Norwegian flight, also from Oslo, makes its appearance.

See you, Badger!

This one looks like it’s in dire need of a lick of paint.

There is an airport bus to Haugesund, which is timed to the flight schedule at the airport. It‘s a fairly small bus, though, and fills up quickly.

Conclusion

This was rather a nice flight with SAS. The crew were friendly, even though their interaction with passengers was somewhat limited. I like the idea of the boxed breakfast, although I think it would make more sense to have a sandwich with no meat if there are no options.
