Excellent Views at the SO/ Vienna at Schwedenstrasse

Introduction

In Vienna I‘m staying at the SO/ Vienna. To get there, I take the U4 from Wien Mitte to Schwedenstrasse. It‘s one stop. I go up to street level and cross the bridge to the other side of the canal.

Location

The hotel has a great location in proximity to the centre of town. This also means that from the rooms on the upper levels there are some excellent views of the Stephansdom to be had.

Suite Upgrade

One of the things I greatly appreciate about the ALL Accor group is how dependable they are when it comes to upgrading their top tier members. And today‘s no exception.

My room is right at the top, on the 17th floor. Above me there‘s only Das Loft Restaurant.

The suite opens into a wide foyer with plenty of cupboards for storage space. Straight ahead is the dining area.

On the table are an elegantly designed greeting card and a box of designer chocolate welcoming me to the hotel.

The room is kept in shades of grey. The only splashes of colour are the lamp shades and the scarlet sofa.

There‘s a Nespresso machine near the dining table, which looks as though it‘s never been used.

There’s also a minibar with complimentary soft drinks and snacks.

The bedroom is off to the right from the foyer. It’s rather spacious. There’s a writing desk and a recliner. I think I like the idea of having literally everything in the same colour. I’m just not sure that grey is the right colour for it.

There are two toilets in the suite. One is just off the living room, while the other is off to the side of the walk-in dressing room.

The bathroom has both a shower and a bath. I don’t try the bath, but the shower is divine, with good pressure and steady temperature control.

The amenities are by a brand named Saint Charles. I’ve never heard of them, which doesn’t say much, but they smell rather nice.

The breakfast is included in my original room rate. So I figure I might as well take advantage of all this private space and order breakfast from room service. I have an orange juice, coffee, the breadbasket with butter and cheese, and the American pancakes in maple syrup.

Conclusion

The SO/ is a great hotel, and the views that come with the upgrade are spectacular. The suite is spacious and comfortable. It’s just that the grey colour makes everything look a bit bland.

    1. Well, not actually swanky—— rather tasteful,if a bit too grey as you say. Breakfast looks very good.

  1. Well William—— its a FRIENDLY rebuff———-sort of “ooh look at you” if you can understand. But i totally take it back. I like the room even with all the grey. What does SO stand for?

    1. Actually William theres no need for me to take it back——– i was fooling around!

      1. No worries, I got that. I think the SO/ has sonething to do with the Sofitels, because quite a few of the SOs used to be Sofitels. But that just a guess.

  2. Knew you’d understand. Quite a few years ago i spent a couple of nights in the Zurich Sofitel[is it still there?]——– arrived on an AVRO from London City which i almost missed due to underestimating the journey time from home. MDC in J just great—–” the captain refuses to land until youve finished the bottle”——— You just wouldnt get that with LH!

  3. All that grey makes it look more than bland, it looks dull. Which is a shame as it seems like a nice layout and good amount of space.

Is that bathroom open to the bedroom?
