Return to the MGallery Rotary Hotel Geneva

Introduction

The Hotel Rotary Genève was the first hotel to open under the MGallery brand back in 2007. The first time I stayed at this hotel was more or less a year ago when I was giving a course at Skyguide. This time, I‘m in Geneva privately.

I arrive at the hotel just after 14h. The gentleman at reception is friendly and polite. He checks me in and tells me that I have two option for my status upgrade. To be honest, I hadn‘t really paid much attention when I made the booking. I‘m not even sure what room types they have. But then he mentions a duplex, and I figure that might be nice.

The Duplex Suite

My room is located on the eighth floor, which is in the attic of the main building. The door opens into a foyer in dark green. The bedroom is straight ahead.

In this room there are two single beds instead of one double. The beds look a bit lumpy, as though they‘re sagging in the middle. But it turns out that‘s just the duvet. In fact, the mattress is pleasantly firm.

At the foot of the bed are the stairs leading up to the mezzanine. The steps are quite steep, so I‘m not sure how suitable the room might be for an elderly person. Upstairs is a sofa, a coffee table and a second television screen.

The room is nice, but a bit quirky. For example, the wardrobe to hang clothes is on the upper level, which seems a bit inconvenient. There also isn‘t much space in general. So if you‘re two adults sharing, you‘re constantly ducking to avoid bumping your noggin or twisting to avoid and pass the other person.

Other than that, though, the room is cozy. Late in the evening, when I return from the opera, it starts to rain. It’s so comforting to just sit there in bed, listening to the sound of the rain drops gently tapping against the windows in the slanted ceiling.

Amenities

The room has a Nespresso machine and capsules, as well as a kettle and a selection of Ronnefeldt teas. The minibar is stocked with complimentary soft drinks.

When I arrive in my room, there is a welcome note and two small boxes, each containing a chocolate macaroon by French confiseur Ladurée.

The Bathroom

The bathroom is small and compact. Given the limited space available, you wonder why they didn’t install a walk-in shower instead of a pint sized bathtub. The cosmetics are by a brand I’m unfamiliar with, but they smell nice.

The Restaurant

The bar and restaurant are on the ground floor, right behind the reception and lobby area. The bar is open daily from 11h00 to midnight. The restaurant is only open for lunch and dinner on weekdays and for breakfast every morning.

For breakfast they serve a large buffet with a good selection of cold dishes. In addition, hot items can be ordered from the menu.

Conclusion

The Rotary Hotel MGallery Geneva is ideally located halfway between the main railway station and the lake. It’s about five minutes in opposite directions to either one. My room on this visit was rather quirky and just a bit strange. The style of furniture is probably a matter of personal taste. Even so, I found the room quite comfortable and the staff were friendly and helpful.

  1. It does look cozy but…just a weird set up. And not much space. Still, kudos to them I guess for making a space of that what they had to work with, I guess. And the breakfast buffet looks nice.
