The Marriott Frankfurt Airport

I just arrived in Frankfurt on a Condor flight from Zürich, which was rather pleasant. As I’ll only be in Frankfurt a few days before I move on, the easiest thing is for me to stay at a hotel near the airport.

Location

The Marriott and Sheraton hotels are located between Terminal 1 and the airport’s railway station. Access for pedestrians is via the Skywalk which connects the terminal to the station. As you pass through the main entrance, the Marriott is off to the left, while the Sheraton is straight ahead.

Check-In & Staff

I’m greeted at reception by a highly efficient young lady with Spanish as her first language. As she checks me in, she’s chattering away at a clipped pace, telling me everything I ever wanted know and didn’t even know I wanted to know about the hotel. I’m not going to be able to remember any of it… but I appreciate her enthusiasm. She finishes with “vale, room is sixth floor”, and I kind of feel like a school boy who’s just been dismissed by the principal.

Deluxe Guest Room

The whole hotel looks as though it was only recently refurbished. The fixtures look new and there are no signs of wear and tear, except perhaps in the lifts. The big disadvantage of this hotel, as far as I can tell, is that none of the rooms have an airport view worth mentioning.

The room is spacious. The decor seems a bit austere. There are no pictures on the wall, save for a motivational quote by Goethe about travelling.

The bed is comfortable and firm, but I’m seriously wondering what the pillows are made off. They feel a bit like memory foam. By they hardly give way when I lay my head on them. It’s enough to give me a stiff neck, so that eventually I decide to sleep without.

The bathroom is spacious and features a large walk-in shower. When I arrive, there are no bath towels, but that is quickly remedied with a call to housekeeping.

Amenities

The room has a kettle and a Nespresso machine. It’s a bit of a shame, though, that they only have these puny little cups that are unsuitable for tea. There are three decaf and three regular Nespresso capsules. Unfortunately, there is no real milk or cream, only powder. Two complimentary bottles of water are also provided.

In addition, there’s also a bathrobe and slippers in the cupboard.

Dining

I only eat at the hotel once during my stay, ordering from the room service on my first night. I have the linguine Arrabbiata, which is good. The hotel has three restaurants which it shares with the Sheraton. One is a German tavern style restaurant specializing, of course, in all things wurst. Flavours is a steak house, while the third serves international cuisine and has some of the dishes available for room service.

Conclusion

As far as airport hotels go, the Marriott Frankfurt Airport is not bad at all. Especially its location between the terminal and the railway station is good. The rooms are well appointed – even if the colour scheme is a bit drab. On previous visits I’ve stayed at both the Hilton and the Garden Inn. So far, of the three, I think I’d choose the Marriott again for my next stay.

  1. Decent enough for an airport hotel. Location and convenience are the main draws – no need to take a bus/shuttle to get there.

      1. The Skytrain has been extended and now runs all the way around the perimeter to T3. It’s already operating for trialling, just without passengers. I suspect, though, they they will quickly run into a capacity issue with that.

  2. Hotel Pillows are almost always’Wrong’——– i’m often tempted to bring my own!.Saw someone today with a GIANT yellow ‘North Face’ holdall——-um, is yours a big one?

  3. And if you are in need of some stylishly understated Handmade nylon Japanese Luggage—— take a look at ‘Porter-Yoshida’ items——— i have one of their backpacks based on the classic MA 1 American army jacket which i love——- take a look.
