The New and Improved Novotel Kirchberg Hotel in Luxembourg

The Kirchberg Plateau is where all the big banks and several buildings of the European Union are located in Luxembourg, including the EU parliament.

As far as hotel accommodations are concerned, the Kirchberg plateau is firmly in the hands of the ALL Accor group. Initially, there was only the Sofitel. Later on they built the Novotel and then the Novotel Suites. And then more recently, the Mama Shelter. All hotels are now part of the same complex.

I’ve been staying at the Novotel on my trips to Luxembourg for the last ten years or so. I think twice I stayed at the Mama Shelter, before eventually conceding that I’m probably just a bit too old for the target demographic which might appreciate that kind of hotel.

On my last visit to the Novotel in November, I was surprised to find that they had finally finished refurbishing the rooms. The transformation really is quite amazing, which is why I decided now might be a good time to make a post of this hotel.

The layout of the rooms has not changed. But with the way the new furniture has been arranged in the room, it suddenly seems a lot larger.

They also appear to have introduced new mattresses with memory foam that adjusts to the shape of your body. I think they’re great and an excellent support for the back.

Every room comes with a bath robe and slipper.

The room has a wide desk and a sitting area with a single seat and coffee table and a sofa.

There is also a water cooker and a Nespresso machine with capsules that are replenished daily. The fridge is stocked with alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. The latter are free of charge, although I’m not sure if perhaps that may have been because of the rate I paid.

Perhaps the most significant improvements have been made are in the bathroom. The old bathrooms were somewhat impractical and rather ugly. Since the refurbishment there are no longer any baths, only walk-in showers. Additionally, they’ve also changes the horrible sugar cane shower gel they used previously with a much nicer scent.

The restaurant at the Novotel is not bad and serves an interesting selection of local and international dishes. Their breakfast spread is also not bad. However, if you’d prefer not to eat at the hotel, there is a mall in walking distance just down the road with a supermarket and several restaurants. Alternatively, you can catch the tram into town. The stop is about three minutes away from the hotel and the journey into town is about ten minutes.
