  1. Hi William—–Shorts!. Nice to see that summer has started in Basel. Its still rather Gloomy on this side of the channel and not really much above !6. ITA look rather good——— i havent flown an italian airline for years. The last time must have been early 80s’s[i know!] on an AZ DC9—– AZ267 LHR-LIN, No catering as there was a strike on with the caterers——BUT ,Farrah Fawcett-Majors was in the seat behind me!!!—– they managed to find food for her of course!

    1. A bit more about Rome——– its probably my favourite european city, and ive probably been at least 10 times over the years. I know that you are into 5 star Sofitel type places, and i have stayed in a few 5 stars myself—– the Grand, and the Excelsior but my favourite was an ancient very small hotel 3 minutes from the Piazza Navona that had a circular staircase that had been preserved for Hundreds[maybe more] of years—— i think the building had once been part of a palace——Wonderfully atmospheric. And i arrived on A completely full LX A321 with a tiny 3 row Business class. And the MDC was on my flight back 3 days later!

      1. Roma part 3————-On another occaision,i had lunch in a sparsely filled ‘Harrys Bar’ at the top of the Via Veneto[which has really nosedived in quality, since i first went there—— the Via veneto Not Harrys Bar] sat opposite a couple who looked pleasant . Crossed the road, lay on my bed in the excelsior, got itchy feet, consulted various timetables, decided on Vienna and found that there was a non stop OS DC9 at 9pm. Austrian didnt particularly ‘Grab’ me so being the avgeek that i am, i looked for a connection. I found one with Lufthansa at about 17 45 connecting with an Austrian flight at 20 15 in Munich. Checked out of the hotel and got a cab to the airport. Two nice ladies sold me a ticket to Vienna Via Munich on the LH 727 that would be leaving in about 45 minutes. Went to first class check where a bored Italian woman asked me if i had an F class ticket and then checked me in. When i arrive at the gate i recognise the couple who had sat opposite me at lunch. The wife says ‘Hello’ and says something to her ‘husband’We are then bussed out to the waiting 727. Who do you think were the only occupants of F class on that flight?!!!!!

  2. No wonder the lounge was full, given how many airlines use it and the delays that were being experienced…

ITA usually does do food well on it’s flights.

  3. Love the Photo of classic Basel by the river. Rivella sounds interesting . Somehow something made from ‘Milk serum’ doesnt immediately sound tasty or refreshing——– how would you describe the taste?

    1. That’s pretty much everybody’s reaction when they hear what it’s made of. Tastes a bit like a very mild Crodino. Not sure that helps, though.

      1. Erm not really William!—— is Crodino a type of coffee?
