What happened so far
The new year kicked off with me returning from New York to Paris on JetBlue. I then did a quick trip to Dubai in January on Air France La Première (stupendous as usual), with a return on the daytime service from Dubai to Paris in Business Class. Keeping aside the short-haul trips I did in between, this was followed by the rather underwhelming (not really a surprise) trip in Lufthansa First Class from Amsterdam via Frankfurt to Bogotà. The trip did not fully go according to plan, as the return was cancelled because of another strike at Lufthansa. In the sum of all things, though, I’m not too unhappy, because at least like this I got to sample Iberia’s excellent service on the fabulous A 350-900 back to Madrid, from where I continued on to Amsterdam on Air Europa.
The next big trip was then in May, when I first travelled on SWISS from Zürich to Vienna, where I got a rather spiffing upgrade at the SO/Vienna. In Vienna I boarded an EVA Air B 787-10 to Bangkok, and then travelled in Emirates First Class to Hong Kong. I had a very memorable stay at The Peninsula Hong Kong, before returning with EVA Air via Taipei to Paris.
In July came my big adventure in Australia in SWISS and Singapore Airlines First Class. And that pretty much brings us to the present.
What happens next
And now, I think I need a rest. If it’s all the same to you, I won’t be posting quite so often between now and late autumn, when I start travelling again. I have a few interesting trips lined up before the end of the year:
- Qatar Airways to Dubai
- Air France to Montreal
- Westjet to Calgary
If you haven’t already done so, you can subscribe to the blog to make sure you don’t miss anything. You will be notified when a new post drops. See you again soon!

A pity William because your posts are always a ‘cut above’!——- didnt take up your Gozo recommendation, partly because i’m not a beach and book sort of person——- would have preferred somewhere more buzzy on Malta itself but also because this month i have other things to do at home to boost my health. Thinking of some time in Murren [hotel Eiger] in october. Might ask for advice as to how to get to Ebenalp and back in a day using a ‘saver’ day pass with first class upgrade as the full fare without a half fare card is PAINFUL!!!!!, Best Regards,Peter.
Well, I’m only taking a short break. And I know, Switzerland is expensive. But maybe it won’t be so bad if you come outside the autumn school holiday dates.
Yeah I did overdo it a bit!!![the praise] and actually thinking about it everything else!
Busy year so far indeed. Your other trips sound interesting too. Enjoy your “time off!”
Thanks. I think I might do a few weekend trips in Switzerland by train, or so.
If nothing else, can also add new trip reports to flight-report.com 😉
My backlog is pretty horrendous by this stage.
Hi William—— possibly you misunderstood my confused message——– i accept that Switzerland is unavoidably expensive—— look at the hotel eiger prices. i just wanted to find out if theres a way to travel to Ebenalp without paying the full undiscounted first class fare—— ive heard about something called a ‘Saver Day Pass’
I’m not sure about a saver day pass. It depends how long you’ll be in Switzerland for. A tourist pass might be more worthwhile.
Always love your content, but always important to take breaks – looking forward to what’s to come
Thanks, it‘s always nice to receive positive feedback. It‘s rather nice not having any photos to upload or posts to write for a change.
